Film over de laatste maanden van Vincent van Gogh in het Noord-Franse Auvers-sur-Oise. Van zijn aankomst bij Dr. Gachet in 1890 tot zijn dood, enkele maanden later. De maanden die hij voornamelijk doorbrengt in Auvers, als gast en patiënt van de arts-verzamelaar Gachet. Een enkele keer maakt hij nog een uitstapje naar Parijs, vooral om z'n broer Theo, van wie hij financieel afhankelijk is, te bezoeken, maar ook om zich met overgave te storten in het uitgaansleven.
